1.Wrong choice of college
Gather information about the institution you plan to attend, including its accreditation status and academic reputation. Trying to attend non-reputed or unaccredited institutes oftentimes leads to visa rejection.
2.Academic Readiness
Have a clear academic plan and demonstrate that you have the necessary background and qualifications to succeed in your program. Certain factors, such as a gap in education, low grades, or incomplete documentation, can raise suspicion.
3.Low TOEFL/ IELTS scores
If you are not a native English speaker, be sure to provide documentation that demonstrates your proficiency in the language. Low scores in either of the tests above are not considered favourably.
4.Passport Validity
Passport validity is an important requirement for obtaining a visa, and failure to meet this requirement can lead to visa rejection. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into the country. This means that if your passport will expire before that six-month window, you will need to renew it before applying for a visa.
5.Weak Finances
In fact, this is one of the major causes of rejection. You should demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to pay for your education and living expenses in the US. Be sure to bring all necessary financial documents.
6.Incomplete long-term goal description
Answers related to long-term goals are also indicative of the famous ‘ties back home’ aspect. Answering this question improperly oftentimes leads to rejection. By the way, the answer should NOT involve looking after family/ parents, BY ALL MEANS!
7.Negative social media presence
Be cautious of what you post on social media, as it may be reviewed by the US embassy or consulate. Avoid posting anything that could negatively affect your visa application.
8.Unconvincing or dishonest responses
Show respect to the consular officer and follow their instructions during the interview. Answer only what is asked in a clear diction. Your answers must also effectively address the question and must not sound elusive. Provide accurate and truthful information on all forms that you fill out during the application process and also during the interview.
9.Field of study
Certain study subjects come under the Technical Alert (TA) areas. Although in such cases, the approval process is kept on hold and visa is approved after a thorough background check (221G), at times it may also lead to rejection. So, if your field of study is listed under TA areas, prepare your responses in a judicious manner, but do not lie.
10.Discrepancies in documents
Sometimes the information you provide in your responses do not corroborate with that provided in the forms that you filled out. Such information is considered controversial and ultimately leads to visa rejection.
11.Suspicion of fraud: If the visa officer suspects that the applicant has provided fraudulent documents or is attempting to enter the US for reasons other than education, the visa may be denied.
