Continuing into this topic from our previous email, we need to understand a sound meaning of profile building and its relation to admission in an ambitious school.
Profile building is a continuous process that increases your competence, ability, and aptitude to strengthen your case. To nail confirmation in an ambitious college, a profile ought to have extracurricular activities well aligned with good academic scores.Together, these are indicative of your potential performance in that particular learning environment.
Now, when it concerns academics, we all know the parameters to consider. You have to top the charts in your class to look good; be in the top 10th percentile, get those high grades in important subjects like Mathematics, English and any others that have direct bearing on your area of interest.
When it comes to extracurriculars, the following automatically comes to mind:
Games
Music
social service
Projects
Summer School activities
Well, suit your style, but be relevant when it comes to the requirements of the program. There can well be other avenues to explore, but don't just settle for stereotypes just because your neighbor, relatives and acquaintances are doing so.
Ambitious Universities, for most of us are Harvard, MIT, UC Berkeley, Cornell, UPenn, Columbia, Stanford…….in short, a bunch of top notch universities with astounding requirements. If we check admission criteria, besides academics and extracurriculars, there are certain cut-off marks for an overall score as an SAT score as well. So, adding up, ISC/ CBSE 96-98%, SAT score 1560-1580 and those activities. Most importantly, the acceptance rate of those universities for international students is as low as 9 to 10%. So what makes you feature in that 10%? Well, first the ‘good fit factor’’ described before and if you feel like a potential fit, the other answer is, "A strong Profile". When all the parts mentioned previously are put together, you are in the top 10th percentile when compared to 2000 other applicants.
If you are an undergraduate aspirant, the 9th standard may be the perfect time to start building such an outstanding profile. For the more mature applicants, academic scores, internships, projects, online programs pursued in the relevant direction can land you the dream Master's, Ph.D., or MBA.
Having said everything, ‘dream’ does not just indicate ranking. Take into consideration what the University has to offer and what you are expecting from it. Make your dreams aligned with your goals and only then, they will come true. We will speak more about this in our forthcoming blogs.
For now, I wish to point out that it is here that the confusion begins. Students are not sure about their career goals, and they end up getting multiple rejections despite having great profiles, before they wake up to this reality. Sometimes they may even become clueless about how to shape their career. But that’s ok., Here is where we at BLOSSOM ABROAD step in. To know more, visit our website and contact us. Come on, write that email, pick up the phone and be rewarded with a dream career.
